In the masculine form, the word “Jalang” in Bahasa Indonesia means “wild” or “undomesticated”; in the feminine, “promiscuous”, “slutty” or “evil”. The group claims the term as a mark of female pride. Alda sings in Bahasa Indonesia and English. Her songs address both personal and collective narratives that explore politics, religion, feminism and gay rights in Southeast Asia.
