When it first formed, the group consisted of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson before the creation of sunn o))). Thorr's Hammer existed for six weeks between 1994 and 1995. Norwegian-born singer Runhild Gammelsæter was on a school exchange in the United States. The band reformed for the Supersonic Festival in 2009 and the Roadburn Festival in 2010.
