The duo formed in 2011, when the two artists were in the beer section of a grocery store in Olympia, Washington, with a mutual friend who intended to introduce them by saying, " You should start a metal band. (dixit Revolver Magazine) Maria is primarily the drummer for the duo Ragana and Coley plays guitar. But the duo sometimes swaps instruments in performance.

Maria's pronouns are she/her; Coley, they/them.
